Dental Bridges Brooklyn
Dental bridges are also known as fixed partial dentures. They are a dental restoration that is used to replace missing teeth via crowns or dental implants. These are unmovable, and only a dentist can take them out.
How do Bridges Work?
When that is one or more missing teeth in the mouth, the remaining teeth can shift trying to fill in the gaps. With missing teeth it is easier to get gum disease and TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint). A dental bridge spans or closes in the space where one or more teeth are missing.
A dental bridge can be cemented to teeth on either side of the gap or it may need dental implants to attach to, your dentist will know which is best and will explain to different types of implants and which one is recommended for your situation.
If implants are not necessary than the abutment teeth (anchor teeth) are crowned and the replacement tooth called a pontic is attached to those crowns. The crowns and pontic can be made of ceramic or porcelain so that it will match your natural teeth. This procedure doesn’t consist of oral surgery as does implants.
If you require dental implants than you will undergo oral surgery to have the implants placed first. Than when you are ready then dentist will place the new teeth. As with other bridges you can choose to have the porcelain or ceramic or aesthetic purposes depending where the bridge is placed. Now the cost of is higher when you are trying to go for the cosmetic reasons.
How are Bridges Made?
Just like dental crowns a bridge is created from a mold of your teeth in a dental lab.
How Long do Crowns and Bridges Last?
Dental bridges are meant to last a life time, however they can loosen or fall out. To maintain your crowns and bridges you must always practice good oral hygiene with fluoride toothpaste 2 – 3 times a day, flossing daily, continue regular checkups and cleanings. You should avoid chewing hard foods/candy, and ice.
